Why you should choose Oakland
Oakland is a suburb of New York City with a population of over 12,000 residents. Oakland has a rich history that dates back to 1636 when Europeans first settled it. The town features many historic buildings including the Old Stone Church which was built in 1827 and still stands today.
The borough got its name because of the white oak trees in the area. The city is mostly residential and there are no major industries in Oakland. Oakland has been ranked #43 by Business Week as a “Great Place to Raise Kids for Less”. And in 2013, Oakland was ranked as #1 for “Young Families” by New Jersey Monthly. The borough’s low crime rate and good schools make it particularly appealing to families.
Although Oakland is a bit remote, there’s still a variety of events for residents such as the annual Memorial Day Parade and the Fourth of July Celebration. Many people also enjoy the downtown shopping area along Ramapo Valley Road, industrial parks, museums, and restaurants.
